Two gifts left behind...- scene 10

I'm not an intellectual giant, but I'm not a dope...
Since the mid-20th century, with radio and telescope,
they are searching for extraterrestrial life,
but the aliens are here and to witness it, s my wife... 

An alien was sent on a secret mission to Earth
and successfully completed her mission, 
               [ie my spiritual rebirth.


She appeared as a gorgeous, attractive, polite lady
and taught me a strange language of the hands, called "wavy".
As I did not know the language of space,
I felt very advantageous, like up my sleeve was an ace. 
With this tongue of hands, she described her planet
and in a way spoke to me about each hobby and habit. 

She taught me with insistence to have great respect
to the people of culture, such as Steinbeck, 
                                                  [Dickinson or Brecht*.

In time she learned to cook, to bake cookies and 
                                                  [to shop at the Mall
also learned to exercising daily and watch baseball.

She gave me her time, the most thoughtful gift of all,
the second gift, her strong Michigan drawl,
which is captive, along with her voice in my mind.

My extraterrestrial, these two gifts left behind...

There is a detail to mention, otherwise it would 
                                               [be willful neglect,
I still remember some words of a song that 
                            [she used to listen with respect:
          ''Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave''
          ''O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?''

*John Ernst Steinbeck The winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature, he has been called "a giant of American letters". His works are widely read abroad and many of his works are considered classics of Western literature.
Most of Steinbeck's work is set in southern and central California, particularly in the Salinas Valley and the California Coast Ranges region. His works frequently explored the themes of fate and injustice, especially as applied to downtrodden or everyman protagonists.

*Emily Dickinson Despite some unfavorable reception and skepticism over the late 19th and early 20th centuries regarding her literary prowess, Dickinson is now almost universally considered to be one of the most significant of all American poets.

*Bertolt Brecht was a German poet, playwright, and theatre director of the 20th century. He made contributions to dramaturgy and theatrical production, the latter through the tours undertaken by the Berliner Ensemble – the post-war theatre company operated by Brecht and his wife, long-time collaborator and actress Helene Weigel.
